“What’s wrong?” she asked searchingly.

We were alone in the media center’s main photo-lab and we had the place to ourselves.
In two days school would be out, and we had the whole big long summer ahead of us.
Our arms intertwined, and her warm breath on my cheek and sweet scent of roses put me into orbit.
Never have the stars been so perfectly aligned, and just six short weeks later, for Beth and I, they never would be again. For one fleeting moment though, on that faraway day, thirty-two years ago, my life had been perfect.
