This is what, I imagine, the conversation might have been like between Captain, Edward John Smith and White Star Line’s Chairman, Joseph Bruce Ismay a few hours before The RMS Titanic struck an iceberg at 11:40pm (ship’s time) on April 14th 1912
She sank two hours and forty minutes later.
Captain, Captain tell me,
just when is journeys end?
You’ve been the most delightful host,
but I’ve business to attend!
I understand your caution,
that there’s icy seas ahead,
but this vessel is unsinkable,
so be a peach, get out the lead.
Dear Sir, Dear Sir, have patience
no need to be uptight
This ship is new and large its true
but unsinkable? not quite!
Captain, captain hurry
to new york and dont delay
this ship was forged of finest steel
no chunk of ice will bar its way
very well you’ve made your point
we’ll plow ahead full speed
but be advised this is unwise
we’re risking lives for the sake of greed.
